Entry Fee: $20 (Early registration until August 14); $30 (after August 14)
Join us for an exciting day of pickleball at the Back2School Scramble! This event is open to students aged 10-18 (your age by 12/31/2024). Even better - you don’t need a partner to participate!
What is a Scramble?
In a scramble, you sign up as an individual player and play with different partners from your pool in each game. Individual stats are calculated for each player, ensuring a fun and dynamic competition.
Age Brackets and Scoring
-
10-13 & 14-15 Year-Old Brackets: Players will be evaluated based on points. The top-scoring player in each bracket across all matches wins gold, the second wins silver, and the third wins bronze.
-
16-18 Year-Old Bracket: After pool play, the top 8 players will advance to a single elimination medal round. For the playoffs, players will be paired with a partner from the other pool with the same ranking. For example, the 3rd ranked player in Pool 1 will partner with the 3rd ranked player in Pool 2 and stay with that partner throughout the medal round.

Additional Information
We anticipate three age brackets: 10-13 year-olds, 14-15 year-olds, and 16-18 year-olds. Brackets will be adjusted based on the number of players who sign up.
All round-robin matches will be one (1) game to eleven (11) points, winning by two (2) points with a next-point tie-breaker at 14. All medal-round matches are one (1) game to fifteen (15) points, winning by two (2) points. Gold medal-round matches will be officiated; tournament play will follow the 2024 USAP rule book.
Good Sportsmanship
Every match is an opportunity to showcase good sportsmanship, whether you win or lose. Celebrate your opponent’s successes and show genuine respect for their skills. In the spirit of fairness, tap paddles or offer a friendly acknowledgment at the end of each game.
Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated; this includes abusive language, aggressive behavior towards anyone, paddle abuse (intentionally throwing paddle or using it to strike an object other than the ball).
Penalty: Verbal warning is given first, and then forfeiture of points will occur in the amount of one point and or disqualification based on incident. All 2024 USAP rules are in effect for this tournament, including technical fouls.
Payment Options
The preferred payment option is Zeffy, our no-service-fee partner. You can be a big help to the Academy by using Zeffy, not Stripe or PayPal for your registration. All three methods are accepted; however, Zeffy doesn't charge us any bank fees; Stripe and PayPal will. Zeffy will ask you to contribute but that is not required. You get to decide the amount you would like to donate to Zeffy to help cover bank fees when you make your online payment.
Refund Policy
A full refund, minus the $5 Pickleball Brackets fee, is allowed for cancellations before Monday, August 10. NO REFUND for cancellations within the two weeks before the tournament. However, substitute players may take the place of a cancelled player without an additional registration fee. Registration for the substitute player is the responsibility of the player that cancelled. The Southern Pickleball Academy does not take responsibility for replacing players who cancel.
